The Department of East Asian Studies – Japanese Studies at the University of Vienna and Akademischer Arbeitskreis Japan (AAJ) are inviting you to a board game workshop as part of the event series u:japan culture.
Go, which is called igo 囲碁 – surrounding game – in Japan, is known as one of the oldest and most complex strategy board games. Still, its basic rules are easy to learn. Japan established and funded Go-schools in the early 17th century and adapted the Dan/Kyū-system used in martial arts to measure player strength. Today, Go does not represent only art or philosophy, it has grown into a competition and a mind sport worldwide.
The workshop first introduces the history and culture of Go. Then, the basic rules and player etiquette will be explained and everyone gets to play a game of Go.
This workshop will be held in English.
