Bio

In his disseratation project, Adam Greguš examines the literary activity of writer Hayashi Fumiko (1903-1951) during the wartime years of 1937-1945 as a case study of literature as war propaganda. Hayashi's case is analyzed with a special focus on aspects of contemporary propaganda, media and publishing culture, as well as state ideology and censorship. Her wartime writing is also examined in the context of her own vast body of work, where many research gaps still remain.

Other research interests include modern and contemporary Japanese literature (since 20th century) as an expression of political and social criticism, as well as these aspects in film and other media.
